Hi, welcome to my first blog post. I figured it was time to start documenting my journey shooting film on a platform where I am not at the mercy of our social media overlords. I started shooting film a little over 2 years ago, but it wasn’t until the pandemic happened last year before I went all in and started shooting it on a regular basis. These blog posts are gonna be deeper dives into the rolls I shot and the stories of how they came to be.
For my first entry, I decided to go with the roll of expired Fomapan 200 I shot with my Olympus Mju Zoom 70 point and shoot camera on October 12, 2021. This little camera never fails to impress me, it punches well above its weight in terms of image quality. On this particular day, it served as my secondary camera on a photowalk I had embarked on with my friend Tom a.k.a @khoikaputt. I had only expected to shoot sparingly with this camera and as such I only brought a single roll of film for it. However, I quickly realized that there were some scenes I didn’t necessarily want to shoot on the more expensive rolls of 120 film I had brought for the Pentax and I ended up finishing the single roll of 35mm film I had brought for the Olympus. Fortunately, Tom was kind enough to give me the aforementioned roll of Fomapan 200 which I had personally never shot before. The fact that it was expired added a little bit of uncertainty with regards to how well the shots would turn out.
I’m really glad this roll turned out so well because I ended up having an unfortunate day. When I got back home and started developing the rolls from the Pentax, I quickly found out that it had not been functioning properly the entire day. By the time I developed the fourth blank roll, I was pretty demoralized. Turns out my Pentax was having issues with the shutter curtain and the advance lever, I’ll be sending it out soon for a complete CLA. Since I didn’t know how long the roll of Fomapan 200 had been expired, I decided to push the development 1 stop by following the Massive Dev Chart’s development time for HC-110 Dilution B. This turned out to be the perfect. Without further ado, here are the results;
